The Spirit of Monmouth running club is an all inclusive running club, affiliated to Welsh Athletics, which caters for all levels of running ability.  If you are a 3 mile jogger or an experienced marathon runner you are more than welcome to come along and join our friendly group.   At present the club has a regular turnout of around 20 – 40 runners with another 30 occasional attendees on our membership list.

Members range from 18 – 72 years of age, and have taken part in a wide variety of events from the London marathon through to the Local Santa Fun Run (1.2 mile) which is organised by the club to raise money for local charities. We also have an active social calendar open to all members and their families should the mood take you.

The club meets at the Monmouth School Sports Centre, opposite Lidl, twice a week.

History

The Spirit of Monmouth Running Club was founded by Marketing Consultant, Mark Harrison, and Estate Agent, Sian Stroud.

The two passionate runners believed that Monmouth was the ideal place to form a club, with the undulating routes of the Wye Valley and the strong community ethos within the town.

In July 2008, they approached the Monmouth School Sports Club as a premises and were met with support and enthusiasm.

The initial turn-out was an impressive 40 runners, and 5 years later, the club has gone from strength to strength with 70 members.

The Spirit of Monmouth Running Club endeavours to live up to its name; and embody the spirit of the Monmouth town through an encouraging and supportive environment.

We are an all-inclusive group who train, compete and socialise together on a regular basis, and welcome new members every week.
